Porsche Issues Recall for 173,000 Vehicles Due to Rearview Camera Malfunction

Porsche is recalling a significant number of vehicles in the U.S., totaling 173,538, due to a critical safety issue. The rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, as reported by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday.

This recall marks one of the largest safety recalls issued by Porsche Cars North America in recent years. It follows a 2022 recall that involved 222,858 vehicles due to missing headlight adjustment screw covers.

The current recall specifically impacts various models, including the 2019-2025 Cayenne, Cayenne E-Hybrid, 2020-2025 911, Taycan, 2024-2025 Panamera, and the 2025 Panamera E-Hybrid.

The NHTSA has flagged these vehicles for failing to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard’s requirements regarding rear visibility. This is a serious concern, as the inability to see behind the vehicle can increase the risk of accidents.

To address this issue, dealers will provide updates to the driver assistance software at no cost to the vehicle owners, as stated by the regulator.

Earlier this year, the NHTSA also issued recalls for other manufacturers, including Hyundai Motor America, Ford Motor, and Toyota Motor, as well as Chrysler vehicles. These recalls were also related to similar rearview camera issues that could potentially fail to display, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
