Progressive Secures Approval for Personal Auto Rate Reductions in Louisiana

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has recently approved a significant rate reduction for Progressive Security Insurance Company and Progressive Paloverde Insurance Company. Specifically, Progressive Security will see an average rate decrease of 6.6% for its over 270,000 private passenger auto insurance policyholders. Meanwhile, Progressive Paloverde will implement a 4% average decrease for its nearly 200,000 policyholders. Notably, this 6.6% reduction for Progressive Security follows a previous 3.2% decrease that the company filed in July 2025.

Together, these two Progressive companies account for approximately 23.5% of the private passenger auto insurance market in Louisiana. The new rates will take effect on January 16, 2026, for new business and on February 13, 2026, for renewal business. It’s important to note that these rate changes represent statewide averages, meaning that individual policyholders may experience different rate adjustments based on their unique risk profiles.

According to the Louisiana Department of Insurance, the primary driver behind these decreases is a reduction in the frequency of claims. This trend suggests that fewer accidents and claims are being reported, allowing Progressive to pass on savings to its policyholders.
