Abbott Appoints Crawford as Texas Insurance Commissioner
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Amanda Crawford as the new Commissioner of Insurance, succeeding Cassie Brown, who retired after more than four years of dedicated service at the helm of the Texas Department of Insurance.
Crawford’s term is set to expire on February 1, 2027. She brings a wealth of experience to her new role, currently serving as the executive director of the Department of Information Resources and holding the title of Texas’ chief information officer. Prior to this, she was the deputy attorney general for administration and general counsel at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. Crawford is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and has previously served as the president of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.
Albert Betts, the executive director of the Insurance Council of Texas, expressed his congratulations to Crawford on her appointment. He stated, “We look forward to working with her and the Texas Department of Insurance to support a strong, competitive insurance market. We also extend our sincere thanks to Commissioner Brown for her years of dedicated public service and leadership.”
The Texas insurance commissioner plays a crucial role, appointed by the governor to oversee the regulation of the state’s insurance market, which is valued at an impressive $293 billion, making it the second largest in the nation.
