Education Secretary McMahon Unveils ‘History Rocks’ Initiative to Promote Patriotism

U.S. Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon discusses President Donald Trump’s Department of Education cutbacks and the role of A.I. in schools on ‘Mornings with Maria.’
As the United States gears up to celebrate its 250th birthday this July in 2026, Education Secretary Linda McMahon is emphasizing a crucial issue she believes is fading from classrooms across the nation: patriotism.
During her appearance on FOX Business’ “Mornings with Maria,” McMahon outlined a nationwide initiative aimed at restoring civics education, instilling pride in the American flag, and fostering a shared sense of national identity among the youth of America.
McMahon expressed concern that many schools have drifted away from teaching fundamental concepts of American identity, such as understanding the Constitution and respecting national symbols. She warned that this shift is contributing to a diminishing sense of national identity among students.
Country music singer Neal McCoy joins ‘Mornings with Maria’ to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday and call for renewed patriotism across the country.
“We don’t teach love of country. We don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance. We are not creating that same sense of patriotism,” she stated, noting that in some districts, “the word patriot was actually crossed out of some of the curriculum in some of our schools.”
McMahon believes that this educational shift has weakened students’ connections to their country and their communities.

To combat this trend, the Department of Education has launched the “History Rocks” tour, a nationwide effort designed to reintroduce civics, American history, and a love of country back into classrooms.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon reveals that the department has found fraud in the student loan system and discusses the efforts to prevent it on ‘Varney & Co.’
“We’re going across the country with our History Rocks tour, and we are focusing on civics, education, and love of country,” she explained.
This initiative aligns with America’s 250th anniversary, which the Trump administration is framing as an opportunity for unity rather than division.
U.S. Chief of Protocol Ambassador Monica Crowley discusses President Donald Trump’s America 250 initiative and his new volunteer program on ‘Mornings with Maria.’
As the nation approaches this historic milestone, McMahon argues that rebuilding patriotism in schools is equally as important as improving academic performance. For her, teaching students essential skills like reading, writing, and math is only part of the equation; instilling a sense of pride in their country is just as vital.
