The individual in question, Jason Dawson, 38, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of arson. The incident reportedly took place on November 22, 2025, when Dawson is accused of igniting a fire at an insurance office located on East Delmar Avenue in Alton. According to the charging documents, the motive behind Dawson’s alleged actions stems from dissatisfaction with the cashout amount for a life insurance policy. Following a meeting with employees on November 21, Dawson returned to the office the next day and is said to have set the building ablaze.
