Arizona Sees 25% Drop in Vehicle Thefts in 2025, According to New Report

In a significant development for public safety, vehicle thefts in Arizona plummeted by 25% in 2025, marking the lowest rate in decades. This decline represents the third consecutive year of decreasing theft rates in the state, according to a new report.

Data sourced from the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority’s Auto Crime Tracker database reveals that a total of 12,686 vehicles were reported stolen in 2025, a stark contrast to the 17,010 thefts recorded in 2024. This figure is the lowest since the AATA was established in 1992, surpassing the previous record low of 16,785 thefts in 2015.

The Chevrolet Silverado retained its position as the most stolen vehicle, with 627 reported thefts. Following closely were the Hyundai Elantra (418 thefts), Hyundai Sonata (323), Kia Soul (309), and GMC Savana (278), rounding out the top five most frequently stolen vehicles in the state for 2025.

When examining the model years that were most targeted by thieves, 2017 models topped the list with 690 thefts, followed by 2024 models at 687, 2019 models at 657, and 2016 models at 650.

The majority of vehicle thefts occurred in Arizona’s largest cities. Phoenix led the way with 4,700 thefts, followed by Tucson with 2,060, Glendale with 737, Mesa with 725, and Tempe with 425. Notably, every city in the top 10 list of vehicle thefts experienced a significant decrease in thefts in 2025, highlighting a positive trend in public safety.
