Marsh Risk Canada Elevates Lewis to President, Taking Over from Robson

Insurance broker Marsh has announced the promotion of Michael Lewis to the position of president of Marsh Risk Canada, effective April 1. This significant advancement marks a new chapter in Lewis’s career as he takes on a pivotal role within the organization.

In his new capacity, Lewis will spearhead the strategic development and execution of Marsh Risk’s commercial strategy in Canada. This strategy encompasses various segments, including risk management, corporate and commercial client services, risk consulting, and specialty insurance broking solutions. His leadership will be crucial in aligning these services with the evolving needs of clients across the country.

In addition to his strategic responsibilities, Lewis will collaborate closely with Marsh’s country leaders to deliver the firm’s market-leading capabilities. These capabilities span risk, reinsurance, capital, people and investments, as well as management consulting, ensuring that clients receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique challenges.

Lewis succeeds Sarah Robson, who will continue to serve as the CEO of Marsh Canada. In his new role, Lewis will report jointly to Robson and Michelle Sartain, president of Marsh Risk for the US and Canada. This collaborative leadership structure aims to enhance the firm’s service delivery and client engagement.

Currently, Lewis holds the position of chief commercial officer (CCO) for Marsh Canada and is also the head of Specialty and Industry for Marsh Risk Canada. He will maintain his CCO role while embracing his new responsibilities as president. A new head of Specialty and Industry will be appointed in due course to ensure continuity and focus in that area.

Lewis’s journey with Marsh Risk began in 2006 when he joined the Workforce Strategies group in Australia. His career progressed as he moved to Hong Kong in 2013 to lead the Workforce Strategies group there. In 2018, he relocated to Canada to take on the role of National Growth and Industry leader, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

Commenting on Lewis’s appointment, Robson stated: “Michael’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as our Canadian clients face unprecedented economic and geopolitical volatility, including evolving trade policies, regulatory changes, and complex global risks. His commitment to clients, deep experience, and leadership will be critical in helping our clients navigate these challenges.”
