Tragic Shooting at Rhode Island High School Hockey Arena Leaves 3 Dead and 3 Injured

Rhode Island officials have reported a tragic incident during a high school hockey game at a Pawtucket arena on Monday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including the suspected gunman. Additionally, three others sustained injuries in the shooting.

According to police, the shooting appears to have stemmed from a family dispute. The victims included two members of the shooter’s family and a friend, all of whom were killed before the shooter took his own life. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves provided these details during a news conference, emphasizing the tragic nature of the event.

“A good Samaritan stepped in and interjected in the scene, and that’s probably what led to a swift end of this tragic event,” Goncalves stated, although she did not disclose the identity of the individual who intervened.

The shooting suspect has been identified as Robert Dorgan, who was also known by the name Roberta Esposito. A woman leaving the police station after the incident revealed to Boston TV station WCVB NewsCenter 5 that her father was the shooter. “He shot my family, and he’s dead now,” she told the reporter, adding that he had mental health issues.

As of now, police have not released the names of the deceased or the injured. The shooting occurred at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena while some players were on the ice and spectators filled the stands. Eyewitness accounts describe players diving to the ground and fleeing to the locker room as the chaos unfolded.

Players and attendees at the arena were subsequently transported by bus to the police station to provide statements. Some players reported hearing at least 12 shots fired during the incident. In a further investigation, police confirmed that they recovered multiple weapons from the scene.
