Arizona Sees 25% Drop in Vehicle Thefts in 2025, According to New Report
Vehicle thefts in Arizona have seen a remarkable decline, dropping by 25% in 2025 to reach the lowest rate in decades. This marks the third consecutive year of decreasing theft rates in the state, according to a new report.
Data from the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority’s Auto Crime Tracker database reveals that a total of 12,686 vehicles were reported stolen in 2025, a significant decrease from the 17,010 thefts recorded in 2024. This figure represents the lowest number of vehicle thefts since the AATA began tracking data in 1992. The previous record low was 16,785 thefts in 2015.
The Chevrolet Silverado continues to dominate the list of stolen vehicles, with 627 reported thefts. Following closely are the Hyundai Elantra with 418 thefts, the Hyundai Sonata at 323, the Kia Soul with 309, and the GMC Savana at 278 thefts. These statistics highlight the ongoing trends in vehicle theft preferences among criminals.
When examining the model years that were most frequently stolen, the 2017 models topped the list with 690 thefts, followed by 2024 models at 687, 2019 models with 657, and 2016 models at 650 thefts. This data suggests that certain model years are more susceptible to theft, possibly due to their popularity or lack of advanced security features.
The majority of vehicle thefts occurred in Arizona’s largest cities. Phoenix led the way with 4,700 thefts, making it the city with the highest number of incidents. Other cities with significant theft numbers included Tucson (2,060), Glendale (737), Mesa (725), and Tempe (425). Notably, every city in the top 10 list of most stolen vehicles experienced a significant decrease in thefts in 2025, indicating a positive trend in crime reduction across the state.
