UAE Successfully Thwarts Surge of AI-Driven Cyberattacks Targeting Critical Industries

The United Arab Emirates has recently announced that it successfully thwarted a series of cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence. Authorities have indicated a “qualitative shift” in the tactics employed by unidentified terrorist groups, raising concerns about the evolving nature of cyber threats.

These assaults targeted the UAE’s digital infrastructure and vital sectors, with attempts to infiltrate networks, deploy ransomware, and execute systematic phishing campaigns. The state-run WAM news agency reported these developments late Saturday, citing information from the UAE Cybersecurity Council.

While specific details regarding the number of attacks or their exact timing were not disclosed, the incidents reportedly involved the use of AI technologies to create sophisticated offensive tools. This highlights the alarming capability of terrorist groups to leverage modern technologies for digital attacks, according to WAM.

On February 18, the council revealed that there had been 128 “confirmed cyber threat incidents” targeting various entities within the UAE in 2026. These incidents included ransomware attacks, breaches of government systems, and data leaks. The sectors most affected were identified as government administration, financial services, and banking.
