A summary of these new hires follows here.

Markel Int’l Taps AXIS’ Howell as Senior War and Terrorism Underwriter

Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of James Howell as senior war and terrorism underwriter, effective immediately.

James Howell

In his new role, Howell will be responsible for maintaining and developing underwriting policies, as well as fostering key broker relationships. He will collaborate with the organization’s management, claims, actuarial, and product development departments to ensure clients receive best-in-class coverage while driving profitable growth across the war and terrorism portfolio.

Additionally, Howell will mentor and lead training specific to the war and terrorism product line for underwriters, sustaining the team’s exceptional underwriting standards, which are highly valued by brokers and clients alike.

Based in London, Howell will report to Chloe Gordge, head of Terrorism – London at Markel International. His extensive expertise comes from nearly a decade of terrorism underwriting experience at AXIS Capital, where he served as a senior underwriter for terrorism and political violence. Before joining AXIS, he worked as an exposure analyst at Argenta Group for two years, focusing on terrorism and cargo and specie sub-teams, and began his career in the Lloyd’s market.

“We’re thrilled to welcome James to our War and Terrorism team in London. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for the war and terrorism market, where rising geopolitical tensions are driving increasingly complex threats and client demand,” Gordge commented.

Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), the London-based specialty insurer, has appointed Olivia Jackson as a cyber underwriter within its Cyber & Enterprise Risk team.

Olivia Jackson

Jackson joins from Liberty Specialty Markets, where she served as a cyber underwriter, managing renewal portfolios and seeking new business across various territories, industries, and coverage sizes for both primary and excess accounts.
