Blue Origin’s NS-37 Mission: Pioneering Space Travel for Wheelchair Users

Blue Origin is poised to make history by sending a person who uses a wheelchair into space on its upcoming space launch.

Michaela “Michi” Benthaus, who sustained a spinal injury in a mountain biking accident in 2018, is set to become the first wheelchair user to cross the Kármán line during the New Shepard mission NS-37, as announced by the company.

Blue Origin stated, “Michaela (Michi) Benthaus will become the first wheelchair user to cross the Kármán line. Her story, advocacy, and passion are evident in everything she does.”

The launch is tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m. CST, with a live webcast beginning 20 minutes prior. Originally set for Thursday, the mission was postponed due to a detected issue during preflight checks.
