Boar’s Head Cheese Recall Due to Possible Listeria Contamination

Boar’s Head cheese is currently under recall due to the potential presence of listeria monocytogenes, a serious health concern.

Supreme Deli is collaborating on a product recall following a report from Ambriola Company, a supplier of Boar’s Head, indicating that certain batches of its pecorino Romano cheese may be contaminated with this harmful bacteria, as stated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall specifically affects two cheese products sold under the Boar’s Head brand: Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese and FS Grated Romano Cheese.

In a precautionary measure, Boar’s Head has decided to withdraw all products produced by Ambriola Company for its brand. This includes pre-cut pecorino Romano, which is not part of the current recall.

The affected items were distributed in Kroger retail stores located in Kentucky and Indiana. They are packaged in clear-plastic grab-and-go containers of various sizes, resembling deli salads and wraps, according to the recall notice.

Ambriola Company identified the potential contamination and initiated a Class I recall for the affected items. Recalls are categorized as Class I, II, or III based on the level of health hazard involved.

BOAR’S HEAD DEADLY LISTERIA OUTBREAK: FOOD SAFETY LAWYER ASKS CONGRESS TO INVESTIGATE

A Class I recall indicates a situation where there is a reasonable probability that exposure to a violative product could result in serious adverse health consequences or even death.

Listeria poses a significant risk, particularly to individuals aged 65 and older, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Even mild cases can lead to severe complications, including pregnancy loss or serious illness in newborns.

As of now, there have been no reported illnesses or consumer complaints regarding the recalled items purchased from Supreme.

Consumers are advised to discard the affected products immediately.

This recall follows closely on the heels of Boar’s Head’s announcement regarding the reopening of its meat packaging plant in Virginia, which was previously linked to a deadly listeria outbreak.
