Charges of Sexual Assault Against Former AIG Executive McElroy Dismissed
Authorities in Vermont have officially dropped the sexual assault charges against David McElroy, a former executive at American International Group (AIG). This decision was documented in a filing with the Vermont Superior Court in Lamoille County.
On December 31, 2025, the state’s attorney for Lamoille County dismissed the charges without prejudice. This means that the case can potentially be reopened in the future. The dismissal was attributed to the ongoing trauma experienced by the complaining witness, which currently prevents her from fully participating in the criminal proceedings.

While McElroy’s attorney, David V. Kirby, confirmed the dismissal, he refrained from providing any additional comments. Kirby previously stated that McElroy categorically denied all charges against him.
David McElroy, who most recently served as the chairman of AIG’s General Insurance unit, faced serious allegations late in 2024. He was charged with three counts of sexual assault and one count of lewd and lascivious conduct. These allegations arose from an incident involving a woman who attended a client conference and fundraiser at the Lodge at Spruce Peak resort in Stowe, Vermont, in early March 2024.
In his defense, McElroy claimed that he believed the encounter to be consensual. Following his discussions with law enforcement, AIG announced that McElroy would be retiring effective May 1, 2024. The 66-year-old executive agreed to accelerate his retirement date for personal reasons, according to the company.
