Chiefs Receiver Rashee Rice Accused of Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend in Lawsuit
The former girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has filed a lawsuit this week, alleging that he physically assaulted her multiple times over a span of a year and a half. The claims detail injuries that include bleeding and bruising, raising serious concerns about domestic violence.
Dacoda Jones, the plaintiff, filed the lawsuit in Dallas County after making domestic violence allegations through a series of social media posts last month. She is seeking more than $1 million in damages, stating that the assaults occurred at their residences in both Dallas and suburban Kansas City.
According to the lawsuit, Jones accuses Rice of strangling her in December 2023, following an “escalation in violent behavior.” The allegations suggest that the abuse continued throughout their relationship, lasting until July 2025. As of now, Jones’ attorney has not responded to inquiries from The Associated Press regarding whether police had ever been called to intervene in these incidents.
The lawsuit outlines a disturbing pattern of behavior, claiming that Rice has “grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted” Jones, in addition to using objects to inflict harm. It also mentions that Rice has thrown objects, punched walls, and broken furniture during these episodes. Notably, many of these incidents occurred while Jones, who shares two children with Rice, was pregnant.
Jones has reportedly suffered from “bleeding, swelling, bruising, and other pain and physical injury” as a result of these alleged assaults. The severity of her injuries underscores the gravity of the situation and raises questions about the safety and well-being of both Jones and their children.
As of Wednesday, agents representing Rice had not returned calls from The Associated Press, nor did Rice’s attorney respond to requests for comment. The Kansas City Chiefs organization has acknowledged the lawsuit and stated that they are in communication with the NFL regarding the matter, which remains under review.
This incident is not Rice’s first brush with legal trouble. He missed the first six games of last season due to an NFL suspension related to his involvement in a high-speed crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple injuries during the 2024 offseason. Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation after pleading guilty to third-degree felony charges related to the incident.
On the field, Rice had a challenging season, finishing with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs ended the year with a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
