AIG Appoints Clifford From Everest as CEO, International Commercial Insurance

American International Group (AIG) has announced the appointment of Adam Clifford as the chief executive officer of International Commercial Insurance, effective January 5, 2026.

Adam Clifford

In his new role, Clifford will oversee AIG’s International Commercial Insurance underwriting, distribution, and business teams across various regions, including the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Japan, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. His responsibilities will encompass Talbot, Global Specialty, and Multinational divisions.

Based in London, Clifford will report directly to Jon Hancock, CEO of General Insurance, and will be a key member of the AIG General Insurance Executive Leadership Team.

Clifford brings nearly 30 years of global insurance leadership experience to AIG. He joins the company from Everest Insurance, where he held the position of senior vice president and head of International Retail Insurance, managing the retail insurance business across the UK, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

This week, AIG also announced that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Everest’s renewal business in six European countries: Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Ireland.

Before his tenure at Everest, Clifford held senior leadership roles at Chubb, including managing director of Chubb European Group. Earlier in his career, he led underwriting teams in both London and Singapore while at AIG.

“Adam is a highly respected insurance executive, recognized for his leadership and deep underwriting and technical expertise,” stated Hancock. “With more than three decades of global operating experience and an exceptional track record—including seven years at AIG where he led underwriting teams—Adam brings invaluable industry knowledge and a global perspective to this role.”

Hancock further expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I am looking forward to welcoming Adam back to AIG and collaborating with him and the team to continue building on our strong momentum.”
