Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced an ambitious plan to sell the company’s fully autonomous Cybercab for $30,000 or less by 2027. This announcement comes as Tesla revealed that the first Cybercab has officially rolled off the production line at its Giga Texas factory.
Shortly after this milestone, Musk took to X to clarify a user’s inquiry regarding the pricing of the vehicle. The user questioned, “Elon – to be clear – the bet was that Tesla wouldn’t sell a Cybercab to a customer for $30k or less before 2027. Are you saying THAT specifically is going to happen?” Musk’s response was straightforward: “Yes.”

The “bet” Musk referred to dates back to 2024, when he first introduced the long-anticipated robotaxi concept, claiming it would cost less than $30,000 and enter production in 2026. YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD, publicly challenged this assertion, stating he would shave his head on camera if Musk proved him wrong.
After the recent production milestone, Musk embraced the challenge, responding to an edited image of a bald Brownlee circulating on X. “Gonna happen,” he wrote, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

The Cybercab is designed as a two-seat vehicle, notably lacking traditional driving controls such as pedals or a steering wheel. Tesla describes it as a “purpose-built fully autonomous vehicle” that aims to provide rides directly to consumers.

Despite the excitement surrounding the Cybercab, Musk cautioned last month that the initial production of both the Cybercab and Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, would be “agonizingly slow” before gradually increasing over time, as reported by Reuters.
As of now, Tesla and Brownlee have not responded to FOX Business’ request for comments.
