Ex-New Jersey Attorney General Platkin Launches New Law Firm

Matthew J. Platkin, who served as New Jersey’s attorney general from 2022 to 2026, has launched a new law office alongside three former colleagues from his time in office. This new venture, Platkin LLP, aims to tackle complex civil and public interest cases, focusing on critical areas such as consumer protection, technology, gun safety, antitrust issues, and independent investigations—mirroring the significant challenges he addressed during his tenure as attorney general.
“At Platkin LLP, we use the law to drive meaningful change in the face of injustice. When our democracy is under threat, powerful wrongdoers harm people with impunity, or gun violence endangers our communities, we fight back fearlessly and win,” the firm states on its website. This mission reflects Platkin’s commitment to social justice and accountability.
The firm’s tagline, “Built for the toughest fights. Trusted when the stakes are highest,” encapsulates its dedication to advocating for those in need during critical times.
Joining Platkin in this new legal endeavor are partners Angela Cai and Ravi Ramanathan, along with counsel Aaron Haier. Together, they bring a wealth of experience and a shared vision for justice.
During his time as attorney general, Platkin was at the forefront of several significant issues, including gun regulation, reproductive rights, and police misconduct. He was involved in or led approximately 40 lawsuits against the Trump Administration, addressing a range of topics such as environmental policies, immigration, and constitutional rights.
One of the notable actions taken by Platkin was the initiation of corruption charges against prominent New Jersey Democratic power broker and insurance executive George Norcross. However, these charges were ultimately dismissed by state courts, highlighting the complexities and challenges of legal battles in high-profile cases.
The attorney general position is appointed by the governor, and Platkin was selected by former Governor Phil Murphy. His successor, appointed by current Governor Mikie Sherrill, is federal prosecutor Jen Davenport, who now carries the mantle of this influential role.
