FDA Elevates Cookie Recall to Highest Risk Level Due to Undeclared Peanuts

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a significant upgrade to a recent recall of cookie products. This recall has been classified under the most serious risk category due to the potential presence of undeclared peanuts, posing a serious threat to individuals with peanut allergies.

Initially, Gregory’s Foods issued a recall last month for its 2-pound 8.5-ounce packages of “Bag Full of Cookies” White Chocolate Macadamia Nut frozen cookie dough. The recall was prompted after it was discovered that some packages were inadvertently filled with Monster Cookie Dough, which contains peanuts.

The FDA highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.”

On Wednesday, the FDA announced that the recall has been reclassified as Class I, which is the highest level of concern. A Class I recall indicates that there is a “reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, [the] product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

This recall impacts over 300 cases, with each case containing six bags. The affected products have a best-by date of December 6, 2026.

The FDA noted that the Monster Cookies frozen dough is distinguishable through the clear window of the packaging, featuring visible chocolate chips and colored candy-coated pieces, unlike the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut frozen cookie dough.

The affected cookie products were distributed to retail grocery stores across Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Customers are strongly advised not to consume the affected products and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The FDA has confirmed that the issue was isolated to specific units from a single day’s production and has since been rectified.
