Gatik Secures $600 Million in Contracts for Autonomous Trucking Solutions

Gatik AI Inc., an autonomous trucking startup, has recently secured a significant deal with a major consumer-goods company, effectively doubling its contracted revenue to an impressive $600 million over the next five years. This partnership is pivotal for Gatik as it aims to expand its operations in shipping goods across the United States and Canada.
“This isn’t a demo, isn’t a pilot; it is a sustained commercial deployment at scale,” stated Gatik co-founder and CEO Gautam Narang in a recent interview, although he chose not to disclose the identity of the new partner. “By the end of this year, we expect to have hundreds of trucks generating revenue, all operating without drivers.”
This latest agreement marks a significant milestone in the autonomous trucking industry, which has primarily relied on test drivers or operated on limited routes to validate the safety of the technology on public roads. Despite advancements in autonomous trucking, few companies have managed to generate substantial revenue after over a decade of developing AI for driving.
As Gatik continues to grow its revenue stream—provided it navigates potential challenges with its driverless technology—the company may soon consider an initial public offering (IPO) when the timing is right and capital is needed. Narang mentioned that the company is well-positioned financially for the foreseeable future. “We are well capitalized and well funded for the foreseeable future,” he affirmed.
In the latter half of last year, Gatik secured $400 million in take-or-pay contracts, including the recent agreement with a shipper. Currently, Gatik operates 10 trucks on public roads without a safety driver, generating revenue. Narang indicated plans to expand the fleet to 60 trucks by the end of the year.
Gatik is actively transporting freight in Ontario for Loblaw Cos. Ltd. with a safety driver on board. Additionally, the company operates trucks in the U.S. for notable clients such as Walmart Inc., Kroger Co., and Tyson Foods Inc. in regions including Dallas–Fort Worth, Phoenix, and Northwest Arkansas. Their trucks are operational nearly 24 hours a day, transporting ambient, refrigerated, and frozen goods between distribution centers and retail locations.
Other autonomous vehicle companies, such as Aurora Innovation Inc. and Kodiak AI Inc., are also engaged in freight routes for various customers, but both have reported only minimal revenue levels.
