Ken Griffin, CEO of Citadel, Claims Trump Halted Biden’s Regulatory Assault

Citadel CEO Ken Griffin recently shared his insights on the Biden administration’s regulatory policies and their effects on the U.S. economy. He emphasized that the Trump administration’s efforts to end the “regulatory onslaught” have provided significant relief to entrepreneurs eager to expand their businesses.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Griffin highlighted the challenges posed by the Biden administration’s stringent regulations, which he described as a source of constant friction for firms like Citadel. “You cannot imagine how painful it was each and every day under the Biden administration to look at what new crazy proposal was being put into place to solve a problem that didn’t even exist,” he remarked.

He elaborated on the exhausting nature of dealing with government regulations, stating, “Our constant friction at Citadel, with the government across umpteen different aspects of our business, was exhausting. To have that literally end on one day – Election Day – just gives you so much energy as an entrepreneur to go back and build your damn business.”

Griffin noted a significant shift among American executives, stating, “The biggest sea change I’ve seen has been just the giant sigh of relief – ‘I can now go and focus on building my business.'” He provided an example of how the Biden administration’s policies directly affected businesses, specifically mentioning the Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit aimed at blocking the proposed acquisition of Spirit Airlines by JetBlue Airways.

The DOJ argued that blocking JetBlue’s acquisition of Spirit violated antitrust laws and would have harmed consumers by reducing choices among budget airlines and increasing fares. Griffin pointed out, “We happened to be a creditor of Spirit. Their merger with JetBlue was stopped. Spirit’s in bankruptcy today.”

Griffin expressed concern over the poorly thought-out decisions made during the Biden administration, stating, “There were so many decisions that were so poorly thought out in terms of economic consequences; it cost the U.S. economy dearly, I cannot emphasize that enough.” He acknowledged that while the Trump administration’s rollback of regulations has been gradual, the shift towards a lighter regulatory touch has positively impacted U.S. businesses and entrepreneurs since the president’s return to office.

Griffin concluded by stating, “The Trump administration is making slow progress on deregulation thus far, but the end of the regulatory onslaught just has been an extraordinary boom for American business.”
