Oklahoma Homeowners Eligible for Grants Up to $10K for Fortified Roof Installations

Oklahoma homeowners now have an exciting opportunity to enhance their homes with grants of up to $10,000 aimed at upgrading to storm-resistant Fortified roofs. This initiative is part of the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes (SOH) Grant Program, which the Oklahoma Insurance Department launched statewide on January 12.

The expansion of this program follows a successful pilot phase, during which participants reported significant savings. According to the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID), those involved in the pilot program are saving an average of $750 annually on their insurance premiums. This is largely due to the discounts offered by insurance companies to policyholders who invest in Fortified roofs, which are designed to withstand severe weather conditions.

“Oklahoma is one of the most storm-prone states in the country, and strengthening homes is one of the most effective ways to reduce damage and control insurance costs,” stated Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready. He emphasized the importance of this program, noting, “This program is working, and now we’re bringing it to homeowners statewide. The opportunity is here, and homeowners who act now can protect their homes and their budgets for years to come.”

Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, contingent upon available funding. To qualify for the grant, homeowners must have a homestead exemption on file with their county assessor. This requirement ensures that the program benefits those who are genuinely invested in their homes and communities.
