President Donald Trump Weighs $10 Billion Settlement for IRS Lawsuit Charity

On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced that he is contemplating a settlement for his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, with plans to donate the proceeds to charity.

Trump initiated the lawsuit on Thursday, alleging that the IRS unlawfully leaked his confidential tax returns in a politically charged breach of federal privacy laws.

A spokesperson for Trump’s legal team previously informed Fox News that a “rogue, politically motivated” IRS employee disclosed sensitive tax information regarding Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization to various media outlets, including The New York Times and ProPublica.

While speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump expressed his thoughts on settling the case and donating the proceeds to “established and respected charities.”

“We’re thinking about doing something for charity where I’ll give money to charity,” he stated. “We can make it a substantial amount. Nobody would care because it’s going to go to numerous very good charities.”

Trump elaborated, “If I pay myself, that somehow will never look good.” He added that many people have suggested this charitable approach, noting, “What a great idea, because nobody cares how much if it goes to a good charity.” He emphasized that settling by donating to charities could be a viable path forward.

Trump mentioned the American Cancer Society as a potential beneficiary of his charitable donations.

The lawsuit asserts that the IRS’s actions were illegal and detrimental, violating federal privacy laws and affecting millions.

The case revolves around a contractor, Charles Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty in October 2023 to a felony charge of unauthorized disclosure of tax return information and is currently serving a five-year prison sentence.

Littlejohn admitted to leaking Trump’s tax records to The New York Times and also disclosed confidential tax information about other wealthy individuals to ProPublica.
