Severe Storms Disrupt Electricity Supply Across South Africa

Storms and high winds are wreaking havoc on South Africa’s electricity supply, with disruptions reported nationwide.

According to Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., the state power utility, while major disruptions in the Eastern Cape have largely been addressed, the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Free State continue to face severe challenges. The adverse weather conditions are significantly straining response times, especially in areas where access is hindered by flooding, damaged infrastructure, or unsafe terrain.

Eskom teams are working tirelessly around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. The situation remains critical, with scores of homes reported damaged in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal region, as noted by the disaster management agency.
