In the 1980s, Reiner transitioned to directing, quickly achieving success with a string of hit films, including “Stand by Me” (1986), “The Princess Bride” (1987), and “When Harry Met Sally” (1989). He also directed the psychological thriller “Misery” (1990), the courtroom drama “A Few Good Men” (1992), “Ghosts of Mississippi” (1996), and “The Bucket List” (2007).

Beyond his cinematic achievements, Rob and Michele Reiner were staunch supporters of LGBTQ+ rights. They were involved with the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), which fought against California’s ban on same-sex marriage from 2009 to 2015.

According to his biography on the American Foundation for Equal Rights website, Reiner played a pivotal role in defeating Prop. 1D, which threatened critical programs for children in California. He also spearheaded the campaign for the California Children and Families Initiative, which increased the state tobacco tax to fund early childhood development programs.

Michele Reiner was equally accomplished, known for her work as a photographer, producer, and children’s advocate. She co-founded Parents’ Action for Children and produced the prime-time ABC special “I Am Your Child,” focusing on early childhood issues. Additionally, she directed advertisements for Gold Star Families for Peace, an organization supporting families of service members killed in action.

In 2012, Michele produced an independent campaign ad supporting then-President Barack Obama’s re-election, emphasizing women’s issues and featuring prominent actresses like Scarlett Johansson and Eva Longoria.
