These pledges will require tech companies to pay higher electricity rates in communities where new AI data centers are established, according to officials cited by the Journal.
The President’s address to a joint session of Congress is anticipated to focus heavily on the economy. He plans to pair working-family guests with a data-driven narrative on affordability, alongside various economic policy announcements.

“President Trump’s State of the Union Address will celebrate 250 glorious years of our nation’s independence and excellence, highlighting incredible stories of American heroes throughout the speech,” stated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt ahead of the event.
Among Trump’s key focuses will be tax cuts in the “big, beautiful bill,” efforts to lower drug prices, and initiatives aimed at making home ownership more accessible for American families. Additionally, he is expected to unveil undisclosed economic policy announcements during the address.
The economy remains a primary concern for voters as they prepare to vote for a new Congress in November, following the Democrats’ 2025 campaign strategy centered around “affordability.”
