In a letter sent to insurance companies adjusting flood losses, Kuderer emphasized the necessity for insurers to inform policyholders about their responsibilities following a loss. This includes providing clear instructions on how to photograph and remove damaged property from their homes to prevent further damage, particularly from mold.
Kuderer urged property owners to adhere to local authorities’ guidance regarding when it is safe to return to their homes and begin documenting any damage. She stressed the rapid growth of mold following flooding events, making it crucial for homeowners to act swiftly.
To facilitate recovery efforts, Kuderer has opened emergency registration for out-of-state adjusters, allowing them to work in the affected areas more efficiently. This move aims to expedite the claims process for those impacted by the floods.
Additionally, Kuderer encouraged individuals to follow best practices for cleaning up after flood damage, ensuring that they take the necessary steps to restore their homes safely.
