2025 Sees 152 Vehicle Recalls, Including Ford Power Loss Issue

Ford Motor Company has made headlines in 2025 for logging an unprecedented number of recalls, surpassing all other automakers and breaking a decade-old industry record. This surge in recalls highlights ongoing quality concerns that affect millions of vehicles across various model lines.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford recorded a staggering 152 recalls in 2025. In comparison, Honda followed with 53 recalls, while Forest River, General Motors, and International Motors reported 32, 27, and 26 recalls, respectively.

Recently, Ford issued a recall due to a software glitch that could lead to a loss of drive power in select 2020 Escape Hybrid and 2022 to 2024 Maverick Hybrid vehicles, although only 87 units were potentially impacted. On the same day, the automaker announced four additional recalls, including one for an instrument panel cover that could detach in approximately 6,897 2025–26 Maverick pickups. Another recall addressed potential headlight failures in over 45,000 units of the 2025 to 2026 Mustang Mach-E.

Additionally, Ford Bronco vehicles manufactured in 2021 and 2022 were part of a recall due to a malfunctioning rearview camera that may not turn off after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse, posing a potential distraction to drivers.

These recalls are just a few of the many that Ford has issued this year, as the company grapples with persistent quality issues. In October, Ford recalled over 1.4 million vehicles after discovering that rearview cameras on certain models, including the Explorer, Taurus, and Mustang, could display distorted or blank images when the vehicle is in reverse.

By October, Ford had already issued more safety recalls than any other automaker in 2025, totaling over 103 alerts, according to a report from Kelley Blue Book. This figure surpassed the previous annual record of 77 recalls set by General Motors in 2014, with a third of the year still remaining.

Under federal law, manufacturers must notify consumers when a vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards due to a safety-related defect. Recalls aim to address these safety issues before they lead to injuries or fatalities.

Typically, manufacturers initiate recalls to mitigate safety risks and avoid potential fines. However, the NHTSA, part of the Department of Transportation, can also mandate recalls based on consumer complaints and safety investigations.

FOX Business has reached out to Ford for comments regarding the number of recalls issued in 2025. In October, Ford reiterated its commitment to vehicle quality and customer safety, stating that it “is paramount.”
