Nissan has announced a recall affecting 26,432 vehicles due to a critical safety issue involving improperly welded door strikers. This defect poses an increased risk of injury or crash, prompting the automaker to take immediate action.
The recall specifically targets the model year 2025 Sentra and Altima sedans, along with the 2025-2026 Frontier pickups and the 2026 Kicks SUVs. Notably, no other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles are impacted by this issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that “certain Nissan vehicles may have been equipped with one or more door strikers that were improperly welded during the supplier’s manufacturing process.” This flaw could lead to a compromised door striker wire loop, which may crack and separate from the plate.
ESSENTIAL WINTER DRIVING TIPS AS A MAJOR STORM APPROACHES
The door striker is a vital safety component designed to keep vehicle doors securely closed during a crash. If the striker separates from the plate, the “door latch may not retain the door as intended while in motion or during a crash,” significantly increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

The NHTSA’s report also highlighted that drivers might notice a rattling noise from the door striker if only one side of the wire is cracked. However, if both sides fail, there may be no warning before a complete failure occurs.

In August, a technician discovered the door striker wire issue during a door fit on a 2025 Nissan Sentra. This prompted Nissan to initiate containment measures, conduct a yard audit, and investigate with its supplier. An audit of approximately 23,930 2025 Nissan Sentra vehicles at the company’s plant in Mexico revealed 12 vehicles with potential door striker issues, leading to further investigation into the welding process.

This month, Nissan began evaluating the potential impact of a fractured door assembly on door performance and compliance. After determining that it could lead to the door opening unexpectedly while driving or during a crash, the company decided to conduct a voluntary recall of the affected vehicles.
The NHTSA’s announcement clarified that Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims, accidents, or injuries related to this issue. Of the 26,432 vehicles involved in the recall, it is estimated that only about 1% may have the defect that triggered the safety recall.
