Hyundai Issues Recall for Hundreds of Thousands of Palisade SUVs Due to Airbag Concerns

Hyundai is recalling hundreds of thousands of Palisade sports utility vehicles due to a potential issue with airbag deployment, as federal regulators have warned. This recall affects model years 2020 to 2025 Palisade vehicles.
The concern lies with the side curtain airbags designed for third-row occupants. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these airbags “may deploy improperly in a crash,” which means the vehicles do not comply with federal safety regulations.

The airbags in question were supplied to Hyundai by Autoliv, a Swedish company recognized as the world’s largest producer of airbags and seatbelts.

The NHTSA has indicated that a remedy for this issue is currently under development, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed by mid-March. FOX Business has reached out to both Hyundai and Autoliv for further comments.

In addition to the Palisade recall, Hyundai has announced another recall affecting over 41,000 vehicles due to an issue with the instrument panel display. A software error is hindering the panel’s ability to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer and warning lights, which increases the risk of a crash, according to the federal auto regulator.

This recall affects various 2025 to 2026 model-year vehicles, including the Tucson Hybrid, Tucson Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), Ioniq 5, Santa Cruz, Kona, Palisade, Palisade Hybrid, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Sonata, Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson.
“Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) is Hyundai Motor Group’s first dedicated electrified vehicle mass-production plant located in Bryan County, GA,” the company said in a media release. (Hyundai Motor Group)
Due to this issue, these vehicles also do not meet federal safety rules.
