Costco is making significant strides in enhancing its customer experience by retiring a decades-old ordering system that many shoppers found cumbersome. This change is part of a broader digital overhaul aimed at streamlining the shopping process.
Customers will soon have the convenience of placing custom cake and deli tray orders directly through the Costco mobile app and website. Previously, shoppers had to physically visit the store to fill out paper order forms, a process that many found frustrating.
Executives at Costco have acknowledged that the old system was “clunky” and have expressed excitement about the upcoming changes. CEO Ron Vachris stated, “Very excited about what we have coming in the app. We’ve got ordering cakes and deli trays online coming. So many of the things that we’ve heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state, and we’re seeing great adoption right out of the chute.”

The major retailer has not yet provided a specific date for the full implementation of this system across all locations. However, Fox 11 Los Angeles reports that customers can anticipate the “Order Grocery/Bakery” feature in the app by the end of 2026.
If the new feature mirrors the current paper-based system, customers can expect their cakes and deli trays to be ready within 24 to 48 hours.
