Tragic Plane Crash in East Texas Claims Award-Winning Pilot and His Wife

Authorities informed FOX Business on Sunday that a tragic plane crash last week claimed the lives of an award-winning pilot and his wife. The couple declared an emergency landing “due to oil on the windshield.”

Local media outlet KLTV reported that their dog was also on board and, remarkably, survived the devastating incident.

The crash occurred in East Texas last Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. The Beechcraft A36 struck power lines while diverting to Brownsboro, as stated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Authorities noted that the small plane went down just short of the runway in Murchison, according to KLTV.

The victims were identified as Ron and Barbara Timmermans, owners of the Orlando-based aviation company AileRon T LLC.

The Bonanza & Baron Pilot Training website highlights that Ron was inspired by Barbara to become a flight instructor. Together, they explored numerous destinations across the U.S., Canada, and the Bahamas.

Images from the crash scene depicted the Timmermans’ plane nose-down in the ground, with its tail dramatically protruding into the sky.

While the couple tragically lost their lives, their small lapdog survived and was taken in by local residents at the crash site, as reported by KLTV.

“The dog was alive, and so one of the neighbors took the dog to take care of,” said resident Mary Ann Shoulders.

The network described him as a vital figure in the aviation community, having been named National Certified Flight Instructor of the Year in 2021 by an awards program associated with the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Ron was an important part of training hundreds of pilots over the years,” the organization stated to KLTV. “He’s done hundreds of hours of interviews with people in the aviation industry. He’s the main host of our interviews online. He and Barbara will be greatly missed.”
